Bob Cook - Vocals, Guitar

My background started when I was a young boy. My family continues to play and sing gospel music. My family is very musically inclined. My dad has played music and been in Bluegrass Bands down through the years. The Cook family continues to perform. My actual start in Bluegrass started when I joined a band Shoe String Grass. This group was performing and playing various locations in the Virginia and Maryland areas. Once I joined the group we entered talent shows, bluegrass competitions and won a few through the years and did very well. Later I joined a group Hobbs and Partners in Centerville, Virginia. This place of Bluegrass Music was absolutely fantastic every weekend Country and Bluegrass music would be playing. We were the House Band at Partners every Saturday night. Later we recorded a album which was called Centerville. Two original tunes written by me are on the album, Walked Out and Tear Drops & Smiles. The years I spent with this group was great and a great bunch of guy's. Later down the road I joined a group called Virginia Blue. This group was very progressive and was playing various locations throughout Virginia. I am now a member of Dark Hollow Bluegrass Band....Great Band. I have been with the group almost a year. We are playing festivals, various locations throughout Virginia. I hope to continue playing and singing with this group. I play guitar and assist on vocals where needed. My influences are: Larry Sparks, Stanley Brothers, Charlie Moore and The Johnson Mountain Boy's. I have played and jammed with: David Parmley, Larry Sparks, Kevin Church, Richard Underwood, Junior Sisk and the list could go on. I reside in Manassas, Virginia with my lovely wife Shirley and our two daughters, Nikki and Brittany and our dog Moo Moo.

William (Hank) Utz - Bass Guitar, Audio Tech
Age: 55
Married for 31 years to his wife Linda.
Hobbies: Fishing and playing music
I started learning to play music when I was around 7 or 8 years old when my Dad got me my first guitar and taught me the major chords. We would play music with his first cousin Reggie Aylor and his son Doug once or twice a week. Reggie told me I should learn to play the bass guitar since bass players were hard to find in our area. I took his advice. By the time I was a teenager, I would play bass when Charlie Denney played the fiddle (he also played bass) for the Paul Jones (dance) and square dances. I played his bass upside down since I am left- handed. I played bass some while I was in Nashville, Tenn. attending college. Other bands I performed in are:
1. Collis Fincham and The Wranglers 13.5 years (Bluegrass & Country)
2. Southwind Band 12 years (Country), one album “Green Fields & Flowers”
3. The Roger Marshall Band (Country & Rock)
4. Hazel River Trio (Country, Folk, & Bluegrass)
5. Debbie Zinn & Jake Butler (“Cabin Fever” cd )
I quit playing for approximately 3 years before joining “Dark Hollow Bluegrass Band” 1.5 years ago. I guess my biggest influence in playing “Bluegrass” would be Charlie Waller of the Country Gentlemen. He had one of the smoothest voices, was a friend, and a great musician. He will be greatly missed in the “Bluegrass World”. Other influences were Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, Don Reno & Red Smiley, Mac Wiseman, Jimmy Martin, Osborne Brothers & Seldom Scene. His country influences were: Hank Williams, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Ray Price.
